Five Ways To Slow Down This Weekend
If there is one silver lining we can take from COVID-19, it is the way it has taught us to slow down. It’s reminded us that the more you do in your day doesn’t mean the more valuable, meaningful or joyful it’s been (in fact it’s often the opposite). This weekend we encourage you to make time to slow down, rest and restore. Then enjoy the calm and clarity it will bring to your week ahead. Here’s five ideas to get you started.
1. Take a ‘digital detox’
Put your phone and other technologies away for the day, the weekend or even a few hours (pending on your level of tech-addiction) and give your mind a digital detox. You’ll be surprised how often you find yourself reaching for your phone as soon as you feel bored or uncomfortable.
2. Make your favourite food from scratch
Choose the slow lane and make your favourite meal or treat from scratch. Sushi, dumplings or bread are all good places to start – you’ll be surprised how much simpler they are to make than meets the eye. Slowing down isn’t the only benefit of making your food from scratch it’s also healthier for you, and produces less waste just to name a few. Need more inspo? 3. Cook and eat a meal outside
No matter the weather! Embrace the seasons and get in-tune with the outside world by dining al fresco, be it at home, at a park or by the beach. Fire up the barbeque, gas stove or public park barbecue and get cooking. Make it an occasion by inviting family or friends to join you. Need cooking supplies? Order your Feedbox full of fresh, local vegetables online.
4. Walk or ride to your destination
Pick a weekend activity that you usually drive to – gym class, grocery store, cafe, work? And instead schedule in the extra time needed to walk or ride a bike instead. Again, put the distractions away and take in your surroundings. You’ll arrive at your destination feeling more calm and present (and won’t have to worry about parking!).
5. Say no and stay in
Quality over quantity, less is more – these old sayings both ring true here. Don’t be afraid to say no to social events when you’re low on time. Your friends and family will be grateful to have you fully present and in no rush the next time you’re recharged and ready to join.
Not sure where you’ll find the time to fit these ideas in? Save yourself some time and a stressful trip to the grocery store by ordering a Feedbox instead. A Feedbox is a box full of fresh, local seasonal vegetables that have been grown on our urban farm in Cardiff Heights. Harvested and delivered to your door on the same day — that’d be a Friday – we’ve got a lovely little coupon ‘Freshness’ for you which will take a tidy $20 off your first box of local vegetables.
Turnip Fries and Kimchi Mayo
Turnip Fries
Slice, chop, and then line a baking tray with a little vegetable oil and salt for approximately 20-30 minutes in the oven at 200C.
When they are crispy and smelling fine, pop them out and team up with this little crowd pleaser – Kimchi Mayo!
Kimchi Mayo
Equal parts kimchi (drained) and your favourite mayonnaise
1 tsp chilli sauce (optional depending on your kimchi heat)
In a hand held mixer, blitz your kimchi and mayonnaise (and chilli sauce). Mix it together and use that stuff on pretty much everything!
